Valentine’s Day is just around the corner, also called Saint Valentine’s Day or Feast of Saint Valentine. The Feast of Saint Valentine was established by Pop Gelasius I in 496 to be celebrated on 14th February. This day is recognised as a significant celebration of romance and romantic love in many regions around the world.
It is a day that lots of people wait for. The day of Love and a time to show your loved ones how much you love them. We always try to make something romantic and special.
Let’s make a heart with me. My 3D heart looks great as a gift and a single handmade accessory.
You will need
- Embroidery frame or Embroidery hoop
- Tule fabric or organza
- Embroidery scissors
- Threads ( same colour as ribbon)
- Embroidery needle
- Velvet ribbons 1.5-2 cm
- Felt
- Toys stuffing
- Sewing pins
Step 1.
The shape of your heart
Take a piece of paper and draw the shape of the heart. This is going to be your heart pattern. You would also need to grade the pattern. I did 6-9 pieces ( up to your preference)
Step 2.
Embroidery hoop – take the biggest heart size and stitch the heart pattern to the framed embroidery fabric (the organza or tule ( up to your preference). Use a running stitch.
Step 3.
Stitch up five layers ( in my case ), and fill up the last layer with Toys stuffing That step, we need to make the heart shape.
That is how it should look like
Step 4
The middle of the heart
For this step, you would need three equal strips of velvet ribbon (the size of the ribbon strips is the same as the size of your heart pattern). Layer the ribbon strips in the middle like the triangle and stitch them up.
Step 6.
Make the ruffles around the heart shape using the sewing pins to form the ruffles.
When you finish forming the ruffles, secure them with an invisible or running stitch.
Don’t be afraid to play a little bit around until you find your style.
Remember to secure your work with stitches.
Step 7.
Finish your work
Use embroidery scissors to cut out your work of the embroidery hoop and leave 2-3 cm seams around the heart. Also, cut out the exact shape of the heart of felt fabric (for the back of your heart).
Finish it with stitching around.
I recommend you use a fine needle and fine threads for a more professional finish look.
Feel free to make your heart style.
